As part of IEEE Day 2025 celebrations, the KARE IEEE Electron Devices Society organized a one-day “Linux Bootcamp” on 11 October 2025, positioned as the first step in the ChipCraft journey. The bootcamp was designed to prepare students for Linux-centric VLSI CAD environments, which form the backbone of Synopsys C2S tools and modern chip-design workflows from RTL to GDSII.

The program covered Linux fundamentals, command-line operations, file system navigation, and shell usage, with a strong emphasis on practical lab sessions. In addition, participants were introduced to Tool Command Language (TCL) scripting and workflow automation techniques tailored for chip-design environments, enabling them to write simple scripts to streamline repetitive EDA tasks. By the end of the day, students gained hands-on familiarity with the Linux command line, scripting basics, and automation concepts, building the technical confidence needed to participate effectively in subsequent ChipCraft phases and other VLSI design activities.
