On 20 September 2025, the IEEE Electron Devices Society chapter at KARE organized an expert talk on “Career Opportunities in Semiconductor Industries.” The session was delivered by Mr. Aswith Garlapati, an accomplished alumnus of KARE and R&D Senior Engineer at Synopsys, as part of the broader RTL-to-GDSII VLSI Design Flow initiative.

During the talk, the speaker outlined the structure of the global and Indian semiconductor ecosystem, highlighting key domains such as front-end design, verification, physical design, DFT, and EDA tool development, along with typical job roles in each area. He shared his professional journey from student to industry engineer, emphasizing the skills, mindset, and project experiences that helped him advance in the semiconductor field. The session concluded with practical guidance on building a career roadmap—covering coursework, projects, internships, participation in programs like ChipCraft, and staying aligned with evolving technology trends—providing clear direction to aspiring VLSI and semiconductor professionals.
